BLM Nevada News BLM Schedules Prescribed Burn in Upper Gleason Creek Weather conditions permitting, the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Ely District is scheduled on or about Wednesday, May 16, 2007, to begin a prescribed burn near Robinson Summit, about 8 miles west of Ely, Nev. The prescribed burn will encompass approximately 1,160 acres on BLM-managed public lands. The burn is part of the Upper Gleason Creek Sagebrush Restoration and Fuels Reduction Project, which will combine prescribed fire with mechanical treatments to improve watershed health and native habitat that will benefit area wildlife, such as elk, mule deer and sage grouse. The prescribed burn, and as much as possible will help protect an area electric power transmission line from potential damage that could result from a catastrophic wildfire. Area residents may see smoke from the prescribed burn throughout the weekend. There will also be an increase in fire vehicle traffic in the area.
