BLM Nevada News ELY FIELD OFFICE NO. 2007-051 FOR RELEASE: Wednesday, Sept. 5, 2007 CONTACT: Chris Hanefeld, (775) 289-1842; chris_hanefeld@nv.blm.gov BLM to Conduct Prescribed Burn in Upper Gleason Creek Weather conditions permitting, the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Ely Field Office is scheduled Thursday, Sept. 6, to begin a week-long prescribed burn near Robison summit, about eight miles west of Ely, Nev. The approximately 800-acre prescribed burn is part of the 1,100-plus acre Upper Gleason Creek Sagebrush Restoration and Fuels Reduction Project that combines prescribed fire with mechanical tree-thinning to restore native habitat and improve watershed health. The project also helps to protect an electric power transmission line from catastrophic wildfire. Area residents can expect to see smoke.
