BLM to Conduct Prescribed Burn in Upper Gleason Creek
Weather conditions permitting, the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Ely Field Office is scheduled Thursday, Sept. 6, to begin a week-long prescribed burn near Robison summit, about eight miles west of Ely, Nev.
The approximately 800-acre prescribed burn is part of the 1,100-plus acre Upper Gleason Creek Sagebrush Restoration and Fuels Reduction Project that combines prescribed fire with mechanical tree-thinning to restore native habitat and improve watershed health. The project also helps to protect an electric power transmission line from catastrophic wildfire.
Area residents can expect to see smoke. Also, fire vehicle traffic will increase in the fuels treatment area.
