BLM Conducts Workshop for Ely Shoshone Reservation Expansion Proposal The Bureau of Land Management will conduct a workshop-style public meeting on Tuesday, Oct. 4, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Bristlecone Convention Center, 150 6th Street, Ely, to gather additional information from interested parties regarding the proposed Ely Shoshone Reservation expansion. The Ely Shoshone Reservation Expansion would provide tribal members with additional housing and tribal enterprises, further educational and recreational opportunities, and provide an opportunity to exercise tribal spiritual and cultural traditions. As proposed, the expansion involves four parcels of BLM-administered public lands. Parcels one and two are located alongside U.S. Highway 93, south of Ely. Parcels three and four are located on the west side of Ward Mountain. The workshop will focus on parcels three and four. Workshop participants will help to further resolve issues and help the BLM develop a consensus-based alternative for the two parcels. The BLM encourages public participation. For more information call Chris Hanefeld, BLM Ely Field Office public affairs specialist, at (775) 289-1842.
