BLM Solicits Public Comment For Cherry Creek Fuels Reduction Project

The BLM Ely Field Office is scheduled Monday, April 4, to make available for public review the Cherry Creek Fuels Reduction Project Preliminary Environmental Assessment. The two-week public comment period ends Monday, April 18.

The proposed Cherry Creek Fuels Reduction Project would reduce the potential for catastrophic wildland fire and flooding in the community of Cherry Creek, about 45 miles northwest of Ely, and increase the amount of available habitat for elk, mule deer, sage grouse and other wildlife species.

The proposed Cherry Creek Fuels Reduction Project meets criteria established by the Healthy Forests Restoration Act of 2003 and implements strategies outlined in the National Fire Plan.

To learn more about the proposed Cherry Creek Fuels Reduction Project, or to obtain a copy of the preliminary environmental assessment, contact Cody Coombs, BLM Ely Field Office fuels program manager, at (775) 289-1800. The document is also available online at www.nv.blm.gov/ely/nepa/ea_list.htm.
