Teamwork Rescues Utah Resident

Oft times in rural counties, such as those in eastern Nevada, it takes the cooperation of a number of people to accomplish great tasks.

Such was the case in White Pine County Saturday when members of the Ely and McGill Volunteer Fire Departments, and White Pine County EMTs from Ely and McGill joined forces with the White Pine County Sheriffs Department, and the BLM Elko and Ely Field Offices to aid a South Jordan, Utah, resident.

Sixty-five-year-old Kenneth Rushton was recreating with his family high above Indian Creek, inside the Duck Creek Basin northeast of Ely, when his All-Terrain Vehicle struck a rock, tipping over. Reacting quickly, the team of volunteers joined forces with the local and federal agencies to evacuate the accident victim to William Bee Ririe Hospital, in Ely – landing the evacuation helicopter at nearby Steptoe Park.
