BLM To Conduct Prescribed Burn

The BLM Ely Field Office is scheduled Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 7-8, to conduct a 1,300-acre prescribed burn in the Bullwhack Summit area, about 25 miles south of Ely.

The project is intended to reduce the amount of hazardous fuels inside the Bullwhack Basin. It will also benefit sage grouse, a species proposed for listing under the Endangered Species Act.

As a safety precaution, the BLM is asking the public to avoid the burn area, which extends from the Lund Group Well to Patterson Pass, from Saturday through Tuesday, Aug. 7-10.
