Students Learn About Public Land Management
From wild horses to wildland firefighting and just about everything in between – some White Pine middle and high school students Thursday learned a lot about the Bureau of Land Management.

“We learned, for example, that the Ely Field Office is anticipating the needs and desires of people 20 years into the future and writing its land-use plans accordingly,” Catherine Tousey, Pre-Employment Technology class teacher and job development specialist, told The Ely Times.

The Pre-Employment Technology class, or P.E.T., is a partnership between JOIN, Inc. and the White Pine County School District. The class helps young people begin the transition from school to work place. Participating students see firsthand the opportunities available, while learning what skills are required for a particular position or job.

To learn more about P.E.T., call Judi Hase, JOIN manager, at (775) 289-3061.
