BLM Reopens Little Ash Springs Recreation Site

The BLM Ely Field Office Monday reopened to the public the Little Ash Springs Recreation Site, which had been closed since the previous Thursday because of contamination by diesel fuel.

The Little Ash Springs Recreation Site is located alongside U.S. Highway 93, about 150 miles north of Las Vegas. It is a popular recreation site for Clark County residents and home to the White River Springfish, a federally listed endangered species.

The BLM estimates that about five gallons of diesel fuel were poured into the spring about a week ago. The investigation into the dumping continues.

The cleanup was conducted in consultation with the Nevada Division of Environmental Protection and U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.

For more information call the Ely Field Office at 775-289-1800.
