Date/2011 Facility Comments:
The Palomino Valley Facility (PVC) north of Sparks, Nev., is open to the public Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and on Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon. The facility is closed on Sunday. Website: www.blm.gov/wo/st/en/prog/wild_horse_and_burro/wh_b_offices_centers/national_wh_b_centers.html
Viewing opportunities at the Gunnison Prison Wild Horse Training Facility at the Central Utah Correctional Facility in Gunnison, Utah are available on Tuesdays by appointment only. Click here for information on setting up an appointment.
Saturday, Feb. 26 Salt Lake 16 studs, 13 yearlings were received. All are in good health.
Friday, Feb. 25 Salt Lake 29 studs received. All are in good health.
Thursday, Feb. 24 PVC
PVC received 39 mares. All are in good health.
The earliest arrivals of mares and foals are improving and gaining weight. The foals are being fed alfalfa hay and the mares are now receiving a mixed ration of grass and alfalfa with continued daily monitoring.
Wednesday, Feb. 23 Delta, Salt Lake
Delta, Utah received 45 animals (26 mares, 19 females). All are in good health. One foal shipped has a deformity of the fetlock joint on the left front and has been separated for observation by the vet.
Salt Lake received 36 studs. All animals are in good health.
Tuesday,
Feb. 22 PVC PVC received 43 horses (29 mares and 14 yearlings).
Monday,
Feb. 21 PVC
PVC received 43 animals (29 mares and 14 foals). Most were in body condition of 3 to 4. They are eating grass hay and have water available. No health issues have been noted. Three of the foals that are young have been reunited with their mothers.
Sunday,
Feb. 20 PVC and Gunnison
PVC received 41 animals (26 mares and 15 foals). Most were in body condition of 3 to 4 with a few with a body class of 2.5 and 3. They are eating grass hay and have water available. No health issues have been noted.
Gunnison received 34 stud horses at 2:50 p.m Mountain Standard Time. All the animals were placed in smaller viewable pens so they could be monitored. Grass hay and water is provided to each pen. All animals are in 3 to 4 body class condition.
Saturday,
Feb. 19 PVC Received 42 animals: 26 mares; 16 yearlings.
Friday,
Feb. 18 PVC, Gunnison
PVC received 26 mares and 19 yearlings. Some of the mares have body condition 2.5 to 1.5. They are eating and doing OK considering their condition.
Gunnison received 36 studs, all in good condition.
Thursday, Feb. 17 No animals shipped.
Wednesday, Feb. 16 PVC
Summary: All horses received in good condition.
Animals received: 40 (27 mares, 13 yearlings)
Tuesday, Feb. 15 PVC, Gunnison
Summary for PVC and Gunnison: All horses received in good condition.
Animals received: 95 (53 mares and 42 yearlings) at PVC; 37 studs at Gunnison
Monday, Feb. 14 Gunnison
Summary: All horses received in good condition.
Animals received: 37 studs
Sunday, Feb. 13 PVC
Summary: All horses received in good condition.
Animals received: 32 (19 mares, 13 yearlings)
Saturday, Feb. 12 PVC, Gunnison
Summary: at PVC: One horse was down on the truck upon arrival; however, it was able to get up on its own without assistance. The horse was found dead in its pen on Sunday morning. No other health issues noted.
Animals received: 43 (26 mares, 17 yearlings)
Summary: at Gunnison: All horses received in good condition.

Summary: Animals arrived in good condition at both facilities.
Animals received: 47 (26 mares, 21 yearlings) at PVC; 36 studs at Gunnison, Utah

Jan. 25 Gunnison Summary: Wild horses arrived at 2:18 p.m. MST. They made the trip OK and appear to be healthy with no problems after they were unloaded. All animals were placed in smaller viewable pens so they can be monitored more closely. Grass hay and unlimited water is provided to each pen.
