Special Forest Products Sales


There are about 800,000 acres of forested land managed by the Elko BLM Field Office. The different forest types include Pinion Pine, Aspen, juniper, Limber pine, True fir and Bristlecone Pine. Harvesting of Special Forest Products, Forest Health Management, and Hazardous Fuels Reduction projects are the primary activities that take place within forested areas. The Forestry program also focuses on insect & disease management, firewood permitting and other sales of forest items.



Wood products such as fuel-wood, fence posts, Pine nuts, Christmas trees, native grass seeds, and transplants are available for commercial and non-commercial sale in designated areas. Non-commercial sales of wood products are for personal use only and the products cannot be resold.

A permit is required. The permit includes rules concerning your activity that must be followed.

Non-commercial permits can be purchased at Elko BLM Field Office. Generally, A minimum purchase of $10.00 is required for all wood products except Christmas Trees. For more information, contact the Elko Field Office at 775-753-0273.

The following forest products are available through the Elko Field Office (prices and availability subject to change).

The current price list is:


Firewood - $5.00/cord for Pinion or Juniper $10.00 cord for mountain Mahogany with a 2-cord minimum.

Christmas trees - $3.00/tree (Mostly Pinion Pine)

Fence posts - $0.40/post (Mostly juniper and pine)

Wildlings - $3.00/tree (Up to six feet in height).

Pine Nuts - $0.25 per pound ( first 25 pounds free) to non-commercial gatherers, only.

There are some areas in the Elko field Office where gathering of forest products is not allowed. If you have a specific area in mind where you want to go, be sure to check with us when you get your permit to make sure you will be in the right area.

Elko Nevada-July 17, 2006-The Bureau of Land Management, Elko, Ely, Battle Mountain Field Offices, are currently accepting bids for the 2006 pine nut harvest by offering commercial permits for 57 permit areas (see attached map) within the Elko, Ely, and Battle Mountain F.O. Resources areas. Bidding for those permits will be by written sealed bid and oral auction and will be accepted until 9 a.m. Pacific Daylight Time on August 4th, 2006, at the Ely Field Office.

Submission of the required security deposit and a written bid at not less than the advertised appraised price shall be required to participate in bidding.

Additional information on the product, condition of sale, and bidding may be obtained at the BLM office in Elko, Ely, or Battle Mountain before bids are submitted.
