Cultural Resources

The cultural resources program at BLM's Elko Field Office encompasses archaeology, paleontology, and Native American Religious Concerns. The Elko Field Office currently has a staff of four full-time archaeologists, one part-time archaeologist and one Native American coordinator.

This page will familiarize you with some of the projects that are currently underway in Elko. The first project to make its way to you is the paleontological study of ancient animal bones at Mineral Hill Cave.

We invite you to take a virtual tour of this fascinating site, and learn about the animals that once roamed northcentral Nevada between 3,000 and 50,000 years ago.
