Gain a greater understanding of the California Trail story through interactive exhibits and videos. An outdoor pioneer encampment features covered wagons, handcarts, and tents. Contrasted with this is the traditional Shoshone summer camp. Education programs are offered throughout the year. Enjoy easy hiking trails adjacent to the Trail Center. Parking is available for cars, trucks, RVs and campers. For more information call 775-738-1849.
The California Trail Interpretive Center, operated by the BLM, is located eight miles west of Elko at Hunter Exit 292.
Current operating hours are Wednesday to Sunday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
We will be closed Christmas and New Years Day.

Junior Explorer Book
The mission of the California Trail Interpretive Center is to interpret the California Trail experience, its related themes, and provide educational and cultural enrichment to the general public. Through interpretation, the Trail Center will contribute to the appreciation and preservation of historic and cultural sites.

Nevada Junior Explorer Adventure Book
The NEW Nevada Adventure Book for Junior Explorers features stories, activities and games about interesting BLM sites all around the State. Once you finish reading the book and completing all the activities, you can take the completed book to any BLM Nevada office, sign the Junior Explorer pledge and receive an official BLM Nevada Junior Explorer pin.
