Tuscarora Sagebrush Habitat Restoration Initiative

The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Elko District Office has prepared an Environmental Assessment (EA) for the Tuscarora Sagebrush Habitat Restoration Initiative. The public is invited to review the EA and provide feedback by Monday, Nov. 30, 2009. After a review of the comments, a Decision Record will be signed.

The Tuscarora Planning Management Unit Sagebrush Habitat Restoration Initiative, located approximately 20 miles north of Battle Mountain, NV would be an integrated approach to restore degraded or declining sagebrush habitat. Proposed restoration treatments include: seed bed preparation using mechanical and/or chemical methods, desirable species seed planting utilizing rangeland drill and/or aerial broadcasting, seedling plantings, as well as protective fencing and livestock grazing closures.

The environmental document for the restoration project is available on line at http://www.blm.gov/nv/st/en/fo/elko_field_office/blm_information/nepa.2.html or go the BLM Elko Field Office home page, click on Information, click on NEPA, and then scroll down to Environmental Assessments. Comments regarding this EA are due Monday, November 30, 2009.

The BLM manages more land - over 245 million acres - than any other Federal agency. This land, known as the National System of Public Lands, is primarily located in 12 Western states, including Alaska. The Bureau, with a budget of about $1 billion, also administers 700 million acres of sub-surface mineral estate throughout the nation. The BLM's multiple-use mission is to sustain the health and productivity of the public lands for the use and enjoyment of present and future generations. The Bureau accomplishes this by managing such activities as outdoor recreation, livestock grazing, mineral development, and energy production, and by conserving natural, historical, cultural, and other resources on public lands.
