Trail Center Seeks Exhibit Items

Elko, Nev. — The California Trail Interpretive Center is in need of items to be part of their permanent exhibits. The Trail Center staff is working with exhibit fabricators to acquire items that are representative of items pioneers would have taken with them to California between 1841 and 1869. The items need not be expensive antiques, but rather items that are representative of the period and in usable condition. Reproduction of period pieces will also be considered.

Items needed for exhibits can be small wooden boxes of various sizes, as well as books that resemble and would have been published from this era are needed. Examples would be trail guides, bibles, books about exploring or life in the far west, and dictionaries or almanacs. Other needed items include: a medicine box with various sized bottles from the period, sewing kits, copper and iron kettles, Dutch ovens and various kitchen items are also desired. Hand and farm tools as well as miscellaneous types of period looking furniture are also needed.

If you have any of these items or want more details contact Trail Center Manager David Jamiel at 775-753-0213, or Gary Koy Supervisory Park Ranger at 775-753-0281.

The BLM manages more land - 253 million acres - than any other Federal agency. This land, known as the National System of Public Lands, is primarily located in 12 Western states, including Alaska. The Bureau, with a budget of about $1 billion, also administers 700 million acres of sub-surface mineral estate throughout the nation. The BLM's multiple-use mission is to sustain the health and productivity of the public lands for the use and enjoyment of present and future generations. The Bureau accomplishes this by managing such activities as outdoor recreation, livestock grazing, mineral development, and energy production, and by conserving natural, historical, cultural, and other resources on public lands.
