BLM installs shade structures at Wilson Reservoir
Elko, Nev.—The Bureau of Land Management used campground fees to purchase 12 shade structures that were installed recently at the Wilson Reservoir, located 85 miles north of Elko. Last year, the water system was installed so running water also is available.
Julia Wingard, recreation technician for the Elko Field Office said, “Campers have been requesting some kind of shade for years now and it’s exciting knowing that their fees paid for the shelters. This is what the Recreation Enhancement Act intended the fees be used for and it’s working.”
About Wilson Reservoir: To get to the Wilson Reservoir, take SR225 about 24 miles to Lone Mountain Station and turn onto SR226. When the pavement ends, follow the signs the last 17 miles to the reservoir. The fee is $4.00/night to camp, seniors with an “America The Beautiful” Senior Pass pay half of the fee. Day use fee or boat ramp fee is $2.00. A garbage truck is on site from May to the first of November. Drinking water is available after the threat of freezing is over (May–October). There are 21 developed sites with shade, picnic tables and fire rings.
