Availability of NewWest Gold Long Canyon Exploration Project Environmental Assessment

The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Elko District Office prepared an Environmental Assessment (EA) to analyze the effects of NewWest Gold USA Inc.’s (NewWest Gold) proposal for mineral exploration at Long Canyon in Elko County, Nevada. There will be a 30-day public review period that will end on September 4, 2008.

NewWest Gold submitted a Plan of Operations for exploration drilling, trenching, and sampling on their Long Canyon property in Elko County, Nevada. Forty acres of new disturbance is proposed. NewWest Gold has disturbed 4.9 acres of public land under a Notice. NewWest is also permitted by Nevada Department of Environmental Protection Reclamation Permit No. 0256 to disturb up to 20 acres of split estate and private land. This new proposal increases the disturbance in the area to a total of 64.93 acres. The proposed exploration would be completed in phases. Phase I would involve the disturbance of 19.6 acres. Disturbance from subsequent phases would total 20.4 acres.

The EA for NewWest Gold’s proposed Long Canyon Exploration Project is online at: http://www.blm.gov/nv/st/en/fo/elko_field_office/blm_information/nepa.html or you may request a copy by calling the BLM Elko District Office at (775) 753-0200.
