“The purpose of the meeting is to get public input and concerns regarding wildland fire risk in Elko County’s rural areas,” said BLM Elko Fire Management Officer Joe Freeland. “The meeting is open to the public as well as our partners, fire-fighting agencies, and volunteer fire departments.” In 2005, a fire risk analysis evaluated risks and hazards for rural communities in Elko County. This year’s risk assessment will look at all other areas of the county. Wildfire Associates are under contract to BLM. The intent of the assessment is to serve the needs of all rural Nevadans in Elko County. The public meeting is the kickoff for the 4-week assessment. For more information about the meeting, contact Joe Freeland at 775-753-0200.
