FIRE REHAB ACTIVITIES IN HIGH GEAR

Bureau of Land Management (BLM) crews, Nevada Department of Wildlife staff, private contractors, private land owners, and volunteers are working to stabilize and rehabilitate lands burned in the 2007 fire season.

- More than 26,000 acres have been drill seeded and aerially seeded; plans are to aerially seed 120,000 acres over the next two months.

- About 250 miles of repair needs to be done on allotment boundary and pasture fences from the 2006 fires; the 2007 fires added another 140 miles of needed fence repairs.

- BLM will build temporary fences to keep livestock off some of the burned and seeded areas.

We have excellent cooperation with private land owners," said Tom Warren, BLM's Emergency Stabilization and Rehabilitation Manager. “Nevada Department of Wildlife is also very good to work with. With their efforts and funding we have been able to seed a lot of burned areas that would not get seeding otherwise. We've been able to coordinate seeding efforts on public and private lands on a number of the incidents including the West Fork, Marge, Bailey, Sansihena, and Boo Hoo fires.”
