ALL ELKO COUNTY FIRES CONTAINED
Elko, Nev. – The Second Chance Fire on the outskirts of Elko is contained.
Firefighters contained the Second Chance Fire last night about 7:30 pm. The fire burned approximately 23 acres. The fire resulted from a residence fire that spread to public land. Nevada Division of Forestry crews will monitor the Second Chance Fire today.
“Yesterday’s fire was a great example of interagency cooperation and rapid response,” said BLM Duty Officer Dylan Rader. “Fire engines and crews from the City of Elko, Lee Engine Company, Nevada Division of Forestry, and Bureau of Land Management showed up quickly. Two helicopters and single engine air tankers made a huge difference in getting fire corralled in short order.”
Rader added that given the current nation-wide shortage of fire fighting resources we’ve been extremely lucky in Elko County with this last string of wildfires. When the Second Chance, Party, and Murdock Fires all began, there were fire crews and equipment coming off another fire in the county.
Fire restrictions remain in effect for all public lands in northeastern Nevada and all open burning is banned in Elko County.
