WILDFIRES WIND DOWN IN ELKO COUNTY
Elko, Nev. - Firefighters have won the battle this week, successfully containing the PX and Blanchard Fires. The PX fire will start the demobilization process today, and the crews on the Blanchard Fire will remain on scene for monitoring and mop up of hotspots.
The 477 acre Murdock Fire is about 8 miles southwest of Montello, Nev. currently smoldering in steep and heavy fuels. Easton's Type III Incident Management Team is calling the fire at 30% contained, and no longer threatening isolated structures. There are 180 firefighters on scene, mostly hand crews from the Nevada Division of Forestry. "The crews are making excellent progress in the steep, rugged terrain" said Dave Easton, Incident IC. "They have done a great job". The Team gave a special thanks to the local Tecoma volunteer firefighters from Montello, Pilot Valley, and Winecup Gamble Ranch for their initial attack support.
All fire fighting agencies are continuing to urge people to be cautious with all outdoor activities. Fire restrictions remain in effect for all public lands in northeastern Nevada and all open burning is banned in Elko County.
