BLM SEEKS RESOURCE ADVISORY COUNCIL NOMINATIONS

The Bureau of Land Management is seeking nominations to fill two vacant positions on the Northeastern Great Basin Resource Advisory Council (RAC) in Nevada. The nomination process will remain open until the close of business on March 5, 2007.
The first vacant position is in the environmental category representing national or regional interests. The appointment would be for the remainder of the position’s term which expires September 30, 2007.
The second vacation position is representing federal grazing interests. The appointment would be for the remainder of the position’s term which expires September 30, 2008.
Individuals may nominate themselves or other persons. The nominee must represent the vacant category. Members are normally appointed to three-year terms, unless they are replacing a member who left the council before the term expires. In the case of the current vacancy, the new appointee would be eligible for reappointment for a full three-year term.
Nominations should be made on the appropriate background information nomination form, which is available from the BLM Elko Field Office, 3900 East Idaho Street, Elko, Nevada 89801 (775) 753-0200. Nominees should have demonstrated a commitment to collaborative resource decision making. All nominations must include letters of reference from the represented interests or organizations, a completed nomination form, as well as any other information that speaks to the nominee’s qualifications. Nominees must be a resident of Nevada.
The 15-member Resource Advisory Council meets several times a year, usually at least quarterly, and provides advice and recommendations to the Secretary of Interior, through the BLM field managers and the state director, on management of the public lands within northeastern Nevada.
In order to reflect a fair balance of viewpoint, the council is made up of representatives from various interests concerned with management of public lands.
For questions about the RAC or the application process, or to request the nomination forms, contact Mike Brown at the BLM Elko Field Office (775) 753-0386.
