WEST WENDOVER CLEANUP PROJECT COMPLETED
The West Wendover Public Works Department recently cleaned up an illegal dump at the Nine-Mile Pit located on public lands about nine miles south of West Wendover on Alternate U.S. Highway 93.
“This area has been used for illegal dumping for some time,” said BLM Elko Field Office Ranger Carrie Pope. “To get to the site, people had to drive right past the legal, free West Wendover Landfill.”
“Bryce Kimber, Director of the West Wendover Public Works Department graciously offered to have city crews clean up the site,” continued Pope. “Seven men using a large roll-off dumpster, a front-end loader, and two dump trucks from the Public Works Department and the West Wendover Fire Chief Jeff Knudtson came out last week worked half a day – cleaning up the area and hauling off the refuse.”
Helen Hankins, BLM Elko Field Manager, commented, “We can’t thank the West Wendover Public Works Department crews enough for this kind of continued assistance. Earlier this year in August, the Public Works Department folks cleaned up an area of public lands about five miles northwest of West Wendover and hauled out four dump truck loads of garbage. This is a great example of people who truly care about public lands.”
