NOXIOUS WEED WORKSHOP SCHEDULED

A workshop to discuss noxious weed identification and management in Elko County will be held at the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Elko Field Office, 3900 East Idaho Street, on Monday, May 8, 2006, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The workshop is free and the public is invited to attend.
BLM Elko Weed Management Specialist Mark Coca commented, “Given the heavy moisture we had this past winter and spring, we’re expecting above average weed growth this growing season. The workshop will include presentations from representatives from the University of Nevada Cooperative Extension, Elko County, Nevada Department of Agriculture, and BLM.”
“Topics to be covered include an agency weed management update, weed identification, herbicide safety and laws, re-vegetating to compete with weeds, and calibrating spraying equipment,” Coca continued. “There will be an afternoon Weed Identification Field Trip to the Errecart Bridge area and Spring Creek.” For licensed pesticide applicators, full attendance at this workshop earns six Continuing Education Units (CEUs), including the required one hour of law and one hour of safety training.
Participation is free, but advance registration is requested. Please contact Kent McAdoo at 738-7291 (mcadook@unce.unr.edu) or Mark Coca at 753-0200 (mark_coca@nv.blm.gov).
