FIREFIGHTERS RESPOND TO NEW FIRE REPORTS … CONTINUE MOPPING UP LARGE FIRES

Elko, Nevada … Five fighters respond quickly to new fire starts contained
Fire fighters responded to three new fires scattered across Elko County on Saturday. With rapid initial attack and help from scattered rain, all fires were controlled quickly. The three fires burned 18 acres, 10 acres, and .1 acre before being controlled.
The Suzie Fire, northwest of Elko, has burned approximately 79,000 acres and is now 90% contained. No new fire growth occurred Saturday. Fire fighters continued to rehabilitate fire line and mop up hot spots. About 295 people were on this fire today.
The Sneekee Fire, about 5 miles west of Jiggs, Nevada, has burned about 10,400 acres and is 90% contained. The fire has not spread in the past 48hous. Crews are continuing to mop up. About 303people are assigned to this fire.
“Today’s scattered thunderstorms resulted in three new fire starts and several reports of smokes. We’re responding rapidly to catch these fires and put them out as quickly as we can before they can get away from us,” said Sam Hicks, Nevada Division of Forestry Northern Region Acting Fire Management Officer. “We anticipate this will be the pattern for the next few days.”
A fire state of emergency was declared in Elko County by the Elko County Commission and a 30-day ban on burn barrels has been put into effect.
