BLM RECREATION AND PUBLIC PURPOSE LEASE PROPOSED FOR WEST WENDOVER

The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Elko Field Office is seeking public comment on a proposal from the City of West Wendover to lease 125 acres of public lands in Elko County for future construction of a government center, convention center, museum, library, open space, parking, and inclusion of the remnants of the Victory Highway into a local trails system.

The lands were requested by the City of West Wendover in 2006 under the Recreation and Public Purposes Act of 1954 and involved planning to save and protect as much of the historic Victory Highway as possible. This request continues the practice of converting Federal lands in the West Wendover area into a city center complex, parks, baseball fields, fire stations, and other public facilities as the City of West Wendover continues to grow.

People may comment on the proposed lease until January 16, 2006. The decision to lease the land will become final if no adverse comments are received. If adverse comments are received, the BLM's Nevada State Director will review the proposed lease and the adverse comments then issue a decision thereafter. Comments may be mailed to the BLM Elko Field Office, Attn: Kirk Laird, 3900 East Idaho Street, Elko, NV 89801

For more information about the proposed lease, contact Kirk Laird at (775) 753-0272 or email klaird@nv.blm.gov
