BLM DONATES COMPUTERS TO GREAT BASIN COLLEGE
Great Basin College students in Elko and Pahrump, Nevada, are using upgraded computer equipment courtesy of the Bureau of Land Management.
The BLM Elko Field Office recently donated four laptop computers, a digital projector, two printers, a specialized plotter, and welder equipment to Great Basin College.
Marie Smith, BLM Elko Field Office Property Manager explained, “Executive Order 12999 authorizes us to donate surplus government computers to schools for grades kindergarten through 12; and the Stevenson Wydler Act lets us donate computers to colleges or trade schools - above grade 12. The equipment is valued at more than $29,000.”
“Because of government computer system upgrades, the equipment would not work with our new operating systems,” continued Smith. “Donating them to Great Basin College was a good fit.”
Jeff Cox, Director of Computer Services at Great Basin College, commented, “The computers will be used at the Elko campus for the Commercial Drivers’ License (CDL) program and the plotter will be used in Pahrump for Computer Aided Design (CAD) classes. This is a great addition to the services and classes for our students.”
