OIL & GAS OPEN HOUSE TO LOOK AT LEASING

An open house will be held Monday, August 22nd, 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the BLM Elko Field Office, 3900 East Idaho Street, Elko, Nevada, to discuss development of an Environmental Assessment covering future oil and gas leasing on public lands in Northeastern Nevada.

A competitive oil and gas lease sale is scheduled for December 2005 in Reno, Nevada. Two hundred twenty parcels encompassing approximately 417,000 acres of public land and federal mineral estate in Northeastern Nevada have been nominated by industry to be included in the December sale.

The purpose of preparing the Environmental Assessment is to analyze potential direct, indirect and cumulative impacts resulting from oil and gas development on the leased lands.

The open house will give people an opportunity to get more information about oil and gas leasing and to voice any issues and concerns they want analyzed in the Environmental Assessment.

There will be maps showing the locations of the parcels and BLM specialists will be on hand to answer questions and discuss issues.

Federal, state and local agencies and other individuals or organizations that may be interested in or affected by BLM’s decision to lease public lands parcels for oil and gas exploration and development are invited to participate in the scoping process.

Written comments are encouraged, and may be submitted to the BLM, Elko Field Office; Attn: Oil & Gas Leasing EA; 3900 E. Idaho Street, Elko, Nevada 89801. To ensure comments can be considered during the development of the Environmental Assessment, please provide suggestions by September 12, 2005.

For questions or more information about the Environmental Assessment or the open house, please contact Project Leader Kirk Laird by phone - (775) 753-0200, by email – klaird@nv.blm.gov, or by mail at the BLM Elko Field Office.
