ILLEGAL DUMPING NEAR ELKO

Someone is using your public lands to avoid paying a fee to legally dispose of construction material. And, the public will foot the bill for the cleanup unless you can assist with information which might lead to the individuals who illegally dumped the materials near Elko Mountain.

Rangers from the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) are currently investigating the illegal dumping of materials and suspect it may have occurred during the week of February 20. Disposed items included numerous construction materials such as pieces of sheetrock, insulation, wallpaper strips, circular saw blades, and plywood sheets containing nails.

If you have information about this dumping incident, call (775) 753-0306. You may remain anonymous.

Illegal dumping is an adverse incident that continues to occur regularly within Elko County. Prosecution of violators may result in fines up to $100,000 and one year in prison.

If you have any information regarding this incident, or if you would like to become more involved with cleanup opportunities being offered this summer, please contact BLM Law Enforcement at (775) 753-0306.
