CALIFORNIA TRAIL DAY CELEBRATION PLANNED
A public event to celebrate the California Trail will be held at the site of Elko’s future California National Historic Trail Interpretive Center on Saturday, June 25th, 2005 from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The site is located just off I-80 at the Hunter Exit (8 miles west of Elko) on the north side of the interstate. The public is invited to attend.
Acting Trail Center Manager Dave Jamiel said, “We invite everyone to join us for the Trail Center celebration. There will be a variety of historical related activities such as talks on life on the emigrant trail, gold rush era firearms, clothing and demonstrations of Dutch oven cooking, and cooking in a clay oven. We’ll also have 1850s period camp displays set up. Featured at the event will be Chris Bayer who will perform gold rush era songs using period instruments.”
“We’re moving closer to the start of construction activities at the Trail Center site. Part of the activities on June 25th includes tours of the footprint of the future building,” Jamiel added.
