BLM NEEDS EMERGENCY EQUIPMENT RENTALS
The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Elko Field Office needs to rent additional equipment for fire suppression and support activities during the current wildland fire season.
“We were lucky last week that we only had three large fires,” said BLM Fire Management Officer Joe Freeland. “Our logistical support for the firefighters was stretched. We need help from the community.”
Beginning Friday, July 29th and running through August 11th, Fire Contract Specialist Sandy Crossman at the BLM Elko Field Office will be negotiating Emergency Equipment Rental Agreements for a variety of equipment to be used during fire emergencies.
“We need all sorts of equipment,” Freeland added. “The list is topped by fuel delivery trucks – both bulk and small delivery-capable – for diesel and unleaded fuel. We also need pickups, enclosed general delivery trucks, and drivers. Other equipment includes water tenders, gray water trucks, potable water trucks, dozers and transports, refrigeration trailers, mechanic service trucks, sedans, stake side trucks, motor graders, excavators, skidders, packers and saddle stock, light towers, generators, portable toilets, refuse collection, mobile offices, ATV’s, pumps, and similar items. All equipment will be subject to a safety inspection before actual use, and all contractors and operators will receive a comprehensive safety briefing before equipment is used in an actual fire line situation.”
Individuals or companies interested in renting to the BLM on a call-when-needed basis and subject to equipment availability should contact Sandy Crossman, Contract Specialist, BLM Elko Field Office, 3900 East Idaho Street, Elko, NV 89801, or call (775) 753-0302.
