Nevada Army National Guard Lifting Spirits (and Junked Cars) in Washoe County

BLM says a special thank you to the Nevada Army National Guard who helicopter-lifted 11 abandoned vehicles off public land over Mother's Day Weekend in May 2008 as part of the Great Truckee Meadows Community Cleanup.  Guard personnel responded to BLM requests to remove vehicles that had been mapped via GPS as part of the cleanup.  The project turned out to be great training for their soldiers, and the public lands in Washoe County are a lot cleaner.

The Guard plans to return in July to airlift approximately 25 more vehicles off both BLM and U.S. Forest Service lands bordering the Reno-Sparks metro area.

BLM also thanks the 90+ volunteers who took time out during the Cleanup remove trash from the public lands north of Golden Valley & Highland Ranch in Washoe County.  They removed over 180 cubic yards of trash and recycled over 150 tires that had been dumped on YOUR public land.
