Summary:  last of the horses gathered on the Lahontan HMA on November 17 were shipped to Palomino Valley Center this morning.

Animals shipped:  15 horses (13 studs and 2 mares).  All transported horses have arrived safely at PVC and are on feed and water.

Cause: one stud foal was euthanized by veterinarian Richard Sanford on 11/19/2010 because of an old healed fracture or dislocation of his right hind fetlock joint. 

Summary: activities today included shipping horses to the Palomino Valley adoption facility and releasing seven horses back into the HMA. Seven horses (2 studs and 5 mares) were released back into the HMA this morning to join others not gathered.

Animals shipped:  36 horses (25 mares and 11 weanling foals) were shipped to Palomino Valley Center (PVC) early this morning by contractor truck. 

Nine additional horses were shipped later in the morning to PVC by BLM transport (4 mares and 5 foals).  The reason for this shipment was one foal’s mother was inadvertently transported earlier this morning without the foal.  

All transported horses have arrived safely at PVC and are on feed and water. 

Fifteen horses remain at the Lahontan temporary corrals (13 studs and 2 mares). These animals will be shipped when there are enough horses (from the Buckskin range) to fill a semi trailer.

Summary: gather operations started at approximately 6:30 a.m. and concluded at sunset.

General Terrain and Weather: flat with few gullies. Mostly sunny and warm, 60. Breezy afternoon with moderate gusts, 10-15 mph.

Animals gathered: a total of 117 horses were gathered on November 17.

Animals shipped: 50 shipped to Palomino Valley on 11/17 (30 studs, 6 mares & 14 weanling/foals).  Of these, one mare and one foal had domestic brands on them - these horses will be transported to Palomino Valley and the Nevada Department of Agriculture will be notified.
