Tuesday, August 21	Summary: 12 stallions, 9 mares and 6 foals were gathered today in temperatures ranging from 57 degrees in the morning to 83 degrees by noon. The body class condition of the animals gathered is 4-5. There were no visitors at the gather today. 24 stallions were released back to the HMA. Gather operations concluded today. Animals gathered: 27 Animals shipped: 44 to PVC Acute related animal deaths: 1 Cause: 1-year-old bay colt broke its leg while running into the trap and was euthanized. Pre-existing/Chronic related animal deaths: 0 Cause: None
Monday, August 20	Summary: 33 stallions, 30 mares and 9 foals were gathered today in temperatures ranging from 44 degrees in the morning to 87 degrees by noon. The body class condition of the animals gathered is 4-5. There were no visitors at the gather today. Sunday, August 19	Summary: 12 stallions, 13 mares and 9 foals were gathered today in temperatures ranging from 54 degrees in the morning to 86 degrees by noon. The body class condition of the animals gathered is 3 to 4. There were no visitors at the gather today. The gather site was moved to a new location today. Saturday, August 18	Summary: 33 stallions, 39 mares and 13 foals were gathered today in temperatures ranging from 57 degrees in the morning to 87 degrees by noon. The body class condition of the animals gathered is 3 to 4. There were 2 visitors at the gather today. One 7-year-old bay mare (wet) died today. Her orphaned older foal came into the trapsite with the group and appears to be in good condition. One foal was roped at the trapsite because it couldn't keep up with the other horses entering the trap. A hotshot was used twice today, once while loading a mare for shipment in the morning (not the mare that died) and once while moving a stud into the chute for aging. Animals gathered: 85 Animals shipped: 34 to PVC; 28 to Gunnison, UT Acute related animal deaths: 1 Cause: Bay mare was being loaded into the trailer at the trapsite and bolted back out of the trailer, hit the gate in the loading area breaking her neck and died instantly. Friday, August 17	Summary: 26 stallions, 22 mares and 14 foals were gathered today. Body conditions of the animals is 3 to 4 on the Henneke Body Condition Scale for the adult animals and 3 to 4 for foals. Gathering ended for the day around 10:30 a.m. One foal was roped today to be brought in to the gather corrals. Animals gathered: 62 Animals shipped: 80 to Palomino Valley, NV and 39 to Gunnison, UT Acute related animal deaths: 0 Cause: None Pre-existing/Chronic related animal deaths: 0 Cause: None
Thursday, August 16	Summary: 60 stallions, 59 mares and 30 foals were gathered today. Body conditions of the animals is 3 to 4 on the Henneke Body Condition Scale for the adult animals and 2 to 3 for foals. Gathering ended for the day at 1 p.m. The weather was clear then became cloudy with scattered thundershowers in the afternoon. Three foals were roped to be brought in to the gather corrals. Some foals are in weakened condition associated with malnutrition. Two foals died; 1 acute and 1 chronic/pre-existing condition. Animals gathered: 149 Animals shipped: 0 Acute related animal deaths: 1 Cause: A necropsy showed the foal ate too much too quickly and developed colic. Pre-existing/Chronic related animal deaths: 1 Cause: A necropsy showed signs of malnutrition with very little body fat and nothing in the stomach or intestines.
