Classroom Training for the Silver State Hotshots

The Interagency Hotshot Crew Operational Guide mandates that all members of IHS's be required to participate in annual training programs before their assignment each fire season. This program deemed 24 hour critical training consists of:

Sand Table Exercises -

Sand Table Production (Sand tables and sand table exercises are useful in a number of ways—they serve primarily as a training aid to allow firefighters an opportunity to run scenarios on a 3-D landscape to better understand the effects of terrain and weather on a fire. Of secondary importance, they can be used to review past incidents and the tactics that were used to find opportunities to do a better job on future fires.)
