Silver State Interagency Hotshot Crew (IHC)

INTERAGENCY HOTSHOT CREWS (IHC) - The primary mission of a hotshot crew is to provide a safe, organized, mobile, and highly skilled hand crew for all phases of wildfire suppression. They are primary firefighting resources and considered a "national resource." Each crew is configured with permanent supervisors and trained firefighters for a total of 20 persons.

Hotshot Crews are so named because of the need for tough, knowledgeable, rugged individuals who can be sent ahead of the main contingent of ordinary labor crews, and independently construct holding lines around critical segments of the fire, hold their line, and survive with little support.

The Silver State Hotshots are based in Carson City, Nevada. We look for individuals that are above average in physical and mental conditioning, who can endure the long, hot fire season, and who readily accept what the day gives them. We look for employees who are committed to teamwork and to the crew.

Wildland Firefighter’s Foundation

Silver State IHC supports the Wildland Firefighter’s foundation, a non-profit organization that supports firefighters and their families in times of crisis. Their stated mission is to provide assistance with the following:

*Provide immediate travel assistance to get an injured firefighter's family to their firefighter's bedside and assist with expenses for families while their firefighter is recovering.

*Arrange travel for crews to be able to take their fallen brothers home.

*Network crews and families with information and support after an injury or fatality.

*Give financial assistance to families of firefighters killed in the line of duty, ensuring the home is maintained and children are provided for.

*Help an injured firefighter meet their financial needs until they receive benefits, or are able to go back to work.

*Track injured firefighters to ensure they are receiving worker's comp benefits.

*Assist children returning to school after the loss of a parent.

*Ensure survivors are able to attend "Family Fire" the Foundation's annual gathering of families, co-workers, and wildland fire service personnel. Families share their path of healing and their children meet other kids struggling with the loss of a parent.

*Organize a Disneyland trip for children of our fallen wildland firefighters.

Membership is only $52.00 a year. For more information, or to sign up, visit:

The Silver State Hotshots can get close to most wildland fires in 4x4 crew haulers, but assignments then call for "boots on the ground" in rough country.
