Saddle-Trained Horses Available for Adoption on Saturday, May 31
Warm Springs Correctional Center, Carson City

The Bureau of Land Management (BLM), the Nevada Department of Agriculture & the Nevada Department of Corrections invite horse lovers and the just plain curious to a special horse adoption event in Carson City on Saturday, May 31. Fifteen saddle-trained horses from the ranges of Nevada will graduate from months of intensive training starting at 10:00 a.m. that day, and all are looking for good homes.

Ten wild horses from BLM-administered public lands and five estray horses under the jurisdiction of the State of Nevada will be offered for adoption at the Warm Springs Correctional Center (WSCC), on the east side of Carson City. The gates open at 9:00 a.m., and a competitive bid adoption conducted by an auctioneer begins at 10:00 a.m. Come join the fun!

The horses range in age from two to five years, are saddle-trained with 120 days of training, and vary in weight and color. The beginning bid on all horses is $150. The saddle-trained animals were prepared at the WSCC by inmates in the Nevada Department of Corrections program.

To pre-qualify for the weekend adoption call 775 861-6469 (BLM horses) or 775 343-9118 (Nevada estray horses through the Mustangs of America Foundation).

Potential adopters are asked to enter the Center off Fairview Drive (formerly Edmonds Drive) in Carson City. From U.S. 395 South, take 5th Street, and then bear right (south) at the roundabout onto Fairview Drive and drive about ½ mile south to the parking lot along the west side of Fairview Drive.

WSCC rules prohibit the public from wearing any blue clothing, blue jeans, tank tops or shorts. Also, please no cell phones, cameras or recording devices. Driver’s licenses and car keys will be checked in at the gate.
