Our Don't Trash Nevada Volunteer Public Land Cleanups for 2008:
*Great Truckee Meadows Community Cleanup - Saturday, May 10, 2008. Many thanks to the 90+ volunteers who took time out during Mother's Day Weekend for a cleanup of the public lands north of Golden Valley & Highland Ranch in Washoe County. They removed over 180 cubic yards of trash and recycled over 150 tires that had been dumped on YOUR public land. BLM also says a special thank you to the Nevada Army National Guard who helicopter-lifted 11 abandoned vehicles that had been mapped via GPS as part of the cleanup - great training for your soldiers, and those public lands are a lot cleaner.
*National Public Lands Day-Carson River Cleanup - Saturday, September 20, 2008. A cleanup of public lands along the Carson River and the west side of the Pine Nut Mountains, in cooperation with the Kiwanis Club of Carson City, Boy Scouts of America, and the Pine Nut Mountain Trails Association.

Take the Don't Trash Nevada Pledge!

- If I see litter on the ground, I will pick it up and place it in the appropriate container.
- I will volunteer my time, whenever possible, to help with clean-up events.
- I will recycle whenever possible.
- I promise to be a good example to others.
The Don't Trash Nevada Campaign started with the BLM, National Park Service, U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service, and the USDA Forest Service in southern Nevada, but the program theme and materials are starting to expand throughout the state. The Campaign is addressing a growing public concern about the problem of illegal dumping of vehicles, large appliances, yard waste, trash and general household junk on federal public lands across the West. It is a problem around most wildland-urban interface areas and all of us need to pledge to not trash Nevada!
