Wednesday, Sept. 22Summary: After consultation with the APHIS veterinarian, two club-foot mares were euthanized on Wednesday, September 22 and disposed of in the Nye County animal pit. The animals were immediately covered with earth.
Tuesday, Sept. 21Summary: 92 horses were shipped to the Ridgecrest Short Term Holding Facility. Gather operations have been completed.
Monday, Sept. 20

Summary: Thirty six animals were gathered today, consisting of 10 jack burros and 26 horses. The horses were in various degrees of body condition raging from thin to moderate. An aged burro died at the gather corral from chronic pulmonary disease exacerbated by the gather. A veterinarian performed a necropsy. Two horses with club-foot condition will be euthanized.

Animals gathered today: 36 – 10 jack burros and 26 horses, consisting of 8 mares, 14 studs and 4 foals.

Gather-related animal deaths: 1
Cause: A necropsy, performed by a veterinarian, revealed that the burro suffered chronic pulmonary disease and the death resulted from this underlying disease exacerbated by the gather (see report by clicking here).
Non-gather related animal deaths: 0

Sunday, Sept. 19Summary: There were forty four wild horses and burros gathered today, consisting of 16 burros and 28 horses. Of the 28 horses there were 13 mares, 10 studs and 5 foals.  Body condition for the majority of horses was moderately thin, however there were three mares that were thin. There were two mares with a front club-foot and one 10 year old stallion whose front feet were nearly to the club- foot stage. The burros were all in good body condition.

Saturday, Sept. 18Summary: Fourteen wild horses were gathered which consisted of 6 mares, 5 studs and 3 foals. The wild horses were gathered with a helicopter and helicopter assisted roping – a total of 6 horses were roped. The horses had no health issues, and body condition score was: average 4.0+. One 20+ year-old mare came in slightly thinner with a body condition score of 3.0. Gather operations in the Paymaster gather area were concluded today. Gather operations will resume tomorrow in the Montezuma Peak gather area.

Friday,
Sept. 17
Summary: There were 54 head of wild horses made up of 20 mares, 27 studs and 7 foals shipped to the Ridgecrest Short Term Holding Facility. Gather operations were not conducted today, but will resume tomorrow.

Thursday,
Sept. 16
Summary: Horses were in good body condition; moderately thin to moderate or better. Three club foot foals and a 4-year-old stud with a minor club foot. The club footed horses will be shipped to Ridgecrest for a closer examination by a facilities veterinarian to determine if corrective trimming will resolve the issue. No major injuries. Today was the observation day with 12 visitors in attendance.
