 Tuesday, Aug. 20

Summary:  The contractor gathered 24 wild horses under clear skies with temperatures around 88 degrees and the horses had an average BCS score of 3. There were 10 visitors at the gather today.

Animals gathered:  24 (7 studs, 12 mares, 5 foals) 
Animals shipped:         

Acute related animal deaths: 

Cause:   None  
Chronic/pre-existing related animal deaths:  0         
Cause:   None    

Wednesday, Aug. 21

Summary:  The contractor gathered 45 wild horses under partly overcast skies and scattered showers. Daily operations ended at 11 a.m. and the highest temperature during the gather was 98 degrees. Horses gathered today had an average BCS score of 2.8 and were thinner and overall in worse shape than the horses gathered on Aug. 20. There were 7 visitors present.

Animals gathered:  45 (20 studs, 15 mares, 6 foals). The total included three domesticated horses: 1 mare and 1 foal (identified and claimed by owner) and 1 branded mare. 
Animals shipped:   24. The horses are being shipped to the facility in Ridgecrest, CA.

Cause:   None  
Chronic/pre-existing related animal deaths:  0         
Cause:   None

Thursday, August 22

Summary:  The contractor gathered 40 wild horses under sunny skies. Daily operations ended at 12:30 p.m. and the highest temperature during the gather was 95 degrees. The BCS of the horses ranged from 2.8 to 4.5. There were 3 visitors present.

Animals gathered:  40 (17 studs, 14 mares, 9 foals).
Animals shipped:   43. The horses are being shipped to the facility in Ridgecrest, CA.      

Acute related animal deaths: 

Cause:   None  
Chronic/pre-existing related animal deaths:  2        
Cause:   14 year old Black Stud, blind, body condition 4. Brown filly with pre-existing deformity of both hind legs. The veteranarian stated the deformity may have occurred at birth.

 

Friday, August 23

Summary:  The Fish Lake Valley Drought Wild Horse gather has ended. Due to recent precipitation and activity in the area, horses that were located on the Fish Lake Valley HMA have moved into other administrative areas. The Gold Mountain portion of the gather will commence August 24.

The contractor gathered 13 wild horses today. Daily operations ended at 10 a.m. and the highest temperature during the gather was 81 degrees. The BCS of the horses ranged from 2.8 to 4.5. There were 3 visitors present. One stud with unique color and a BCS of 4 was released in the Chiatovich Creek area to increase genetic diversity.

Animals gathered:  13 (5 studs, 5 mares, 3 foals).
Animals shipped:   50. The horses are being shipped to the facility in Ridgecrest, CA.
