Lander County Requests Land for Waste Water Treatment Facility
The Bureau of Land Management (BLM), Mount Lewis Field Office published a notice in the Federal Register on Oct. 15 announcing a proposal to classify for disposal approximately 80 acres of public land near Austin, Nev., to Lander County for a waste water treatment facility. The public is invited to comment on the proposal during a 45-day comment period that ends Dec. 1, 2008.
The classification and conveyance would allow Lander County to construct a waste water treatment facility to replace an existing facility which is no longer in compliance with state and federal regulations. The Recreation and Public Purposes Act requires disposal of public lands as opposed to leasing the lands where hazardous substances, such as waste water, are to be placed or stored.
