BLM Soliciting Comments on Phoenix Copper Leach Project

Battle Mountain, Nev.—The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Battle Mountain Field Office will prepare a Supplemental Environmental Impact Statement (SEIS) to analyze a proposed amendment to the Phoenix Mine Plan of Operations for the Phoenix Copper Leach Project. The proposed project is 12 miles southwest of Battle Mountain, Nevada.

The BLM is seeking public input regarding issues that should be analyzed in the SEIS. A Notice of Intent was published in the Federal Register on February 12, 2008, opening a 30-day scoping period which will end March 13, 2008. A public meeting to gather comments will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 27 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., at the Battle Mountain Field Office.

The SEIS will analyze potential impacts of the proposed project. Public comment is important and will be considered in the environmental analysis process. Written comments on the scope of the SEIS must be post marked or hand delivered by 4:30 p.m. on March 13, 2008. Scoping comments may be mailed to the BLM Battle Mountain Field Office, Attn: Jon Sherve, 50 Bastian Road, Battle Mountain, NV 89820.

Those submitting comments should be aware that personal identifying information included in public comments may be publicly available at any time.
