FIRE RESTRICTIONS LIFT FOR NORTH-CENTRAL NEVADA OCTOBER 5

Due to decreased fire danger conditions in north-central Nevada, area land managers announced that fire restrictions on public lands will be lifted at 12:01 a.m. on Friday, October 5, 2007. Fire restrictions will be lifted from public lands administered by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Battle Mountain and Winnemucca Field Offices, the US Forest Service Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest's Austin, Santa Rosa and Tonopah Ranger Districts, and the Nevada Division of Forestry (NDF) within the Humboldt, Pershing, Lander, Eureka, Esmeralda, and Nye County Fire Protection Districts and parts of Washoe, Lyon and Churchill Counties.

Recent rains and cooler temperatures have lessened the fire danger to a point where fire restrictions are no longer needed.

All other BLM and Forest Service units in Nevada have lifted fire restrictions. This means there are no longer restrictions on using open campfires on public lands in Nevada. However, area land managers remind the public that it is still very important that care be used with fire and adequate precautions taken to prevent the escape of campfires. Visitors to Public Lands are encouraged to carry an axe, shovel, 1-5 gallons of water, and a fire extinguisher.

More information is available by contacting local BLM, Forest Service, Nevada Division of Forestry, or U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Offices.
