The Bureau of Land Management’s Battle Mountain Field Office, Eureka Fire Station and Bishop (California) Field Office are currently selling Christmas tree permits and they will be available through December 24.

The agency conducts Christmas tree sales to thin small trees in overstocked areas and to provide recreational experiences for local residents. Permits sell for $3.00 and are valid through December 25. Purchases can be made in person, through phone/credit card orders or check/credit card mail orders. Contact numbers for the field offices are as follows:

Permits are available on public lands district wide for the Battle Mountain Field Office. Tree cutters should bring along their own saws, warm clothing, a first aid kit, extra food and water, heavy rope or chain, shovel and tire chains in the event of bad road conditions or inclement weather. Since permits are non-refundable, it is advisable to cut trees early in the season because some areas may not be accessible after snowfall.
