Renewable Energy Development of Post-Mining Sites in Northern Nevada
Project Studies Use of Mining Infrastructure for Renewable Energy Production

Project: Study the feasibility of using post-mining infrastructure with renewable energy technology in Lander County. The studies would determine how much existing mine infrastructure could be reused for other uses.

ARRA Funding Level: $100,000

Progress:

February 2, 2011: $98,988 obligated, $6,692 spent.

Completion target date: March 18, 2012

Benefits and Needs: Mine infrastructure could include buildings and delivery systems for water, sewer and power. The studies would determine requirements needed to convert or retrofit mining infrastructure such as heap leach pads, waste rock dumps, tailings impoundments, electrical substations, power grid, buildings and shops on public land into renewable energy production facilities.
