The Branch is responsible for assisting customers in the use and application of geospatial sciences, facilitating accomplishments cooperatively, and consulting on the best approach and collection method to address decision needs.  As the Chief of the Resource Technology Branch, my work requires diverse experience in geographic sciences, working with people, information technologies, project management and advancing science and technical leadership for natural resource application.  A graduate from the University of Wisconsin - Madison with a degree in Cartography, additional course work in information technology and project management.

As a remote sensing specialist for NSTC and the BLM as a whole, my duties include supporting the Bureau's National Monitoring Program and providing subject matter expertise in aerial and satellite remote sensing.   The foundation for my 13 plus years of experience in remote sensing and GIS came from the University of Wisconsin-Madison’s Environmental Monitoring Masters program.  My project experience has long been focused on implementing geospatial technologies for a wide variety of disciplines including cultural resource management, agriculture, ecosystem/wildlife management, fire, and many other areas.

The current National Data Steward for BLM Administrative Boundaries, my work involves maintaining the dataset, as well as providing GIS  and mapping services via ArcMap and Arc Workstation.  My data resources also include relatively current BLM lands ownership as well as all Federal lands ownership for the nation, found on the BLM GeoCommunicator website but only in small downloads . A Master of Science in Remote Sensing, University of Michigan 1979; Bachelor of Science - Geology, University of Northern Iowa, 1974.

As a Fire Management Specialist in the Branch of Resource Technology, the majority of my work contains a geospatial component to it.  Currently, as the BLM representative on the National Wildfire Coordinating Group’s (NWCG) Geospatial Task Group (GTG) the groups mission is to strategically facilitate and coordinate processes and communications necessary to ensure the integration, implementation and efficient use of geospatial components and technologies for the interagency wildland fire management program.  Other aspect of my position at the National Science and Technology Center involve researching new remote sensing technologies to be used in wildland fire management, working with National Configuration Management and the National Test Lab on baselining fire applications that are used within the BLM and coordinating individuals that have red cards from the National Centers in Denver.

Serving as the Webmaster for NSTC, my duties also include Photography and Videography, producing such products as the BLM Uniform Catalog, and supporting the National Training Center doing video projects. I am a proud member of the BLM Band playing accordion and electric guitar performing at various BLM events.

As a cartographer with over 25 years experience in image processing of both satellite and airborne imagery, my main emphasis is the creation of orthoimagery and elevation surfaces from imagery, LIDAR, and IFSAR systems. Assistance can be provided to BLM offices in the creation of Statements of Work (SOW), project management, and in acting as the COTR when contracting for geospatial products. Additional responsibilities include representing the BLM as the project and technical representative on national committees such as the National Digital Orthophoto Program (NDOP), National Digital Elevation Program (NDEP) and the Inter-Agency Digital Imagery Working Group (IADIWG). Also act as the BLM’s Point-of-Contact for Configuration Management issues regarding image processing software.

As a Cartographer / Photogrammetrist with the Branch of Resource Technology the major emphasis of my project work over the last twenty years has been in the field of Photogrammetry. These projects have included all aspects of photogrammetry including; project design, photography acquisition, data processing, compilation, quality assurance/quality control and final output. Other projects have included work, in many aspects of geo-spatial technologies such as remote sensing and GIS. Working as a COR/COTR is also a function of my position.  A graduate of South Dakota State University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Fish and Wildlife Biology.

As a Geographer with the Branch of Resource Technology the majority of my work focuses on producing and integrating 3-dimesional digital data with imagery for enhanced visualization and analysis. Examples of applications for this technology are the detailed documentation of delicate, changing, or difficult to access subjects, such as biological soil crusts or archeological sites (i.e., rock art). My formal education is a Masters of Science Degree in geology from the University of Kentucky. Previous work experience includes the Kentucky Geological Survey and the Defense Department.

As a member of the Branch of Resource Technology, my expertise includes all aspects of photogrammetry projects, image manipulation and rectification, close range photogrammetry techniques, geodesy, cadastral surveying, 3D modeling, AutoCAD, and programming LISP routines inside AutoCAD. A graduate of Oregon Institute of Technology with a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering.
