PHOTOGRAMMETRIC APPLICATIONS
We provide photogrammetric services to assist customers with their mapping needs, by using both aerial and oblique photography we can precisely and accurately map and measure features (in both horizontal and vertical dimensions) on the earth's surface. We have the capabilities to design and deliver projects that are customized to meet each customer’s unique specifications. This includes all phases of the photogrammetric process from managing acquisition to delivery of final map products.
Large-Scale Site Mapping - We compile large scale (1" on the map equals 50' in the ground to 1"=200' horizontal scale) topographic maps with contour intervals as small as 1' to support various programs across the Bureau. Some of the many programs supported include; Engineering (for both design and construction purposes), Hazmat (for remediation and monitoring purposes), Recreation (for inventorying and planning). Other mapping can assist visual resource management (VRM) and travel management route mapping (for inventorying and monitoring).
Close-Range Photogrammetry - Close-Range Photogrammetry is mapping using the same principles as traditional photogrammetry except at much larger scales (1"=1" to 1"=20' horizontal scale) with contour intervals as small as 1mm. These sites tend to be smaller in area but the information compiled has a much greater level of detail. This technology can be used to map delicate and irreplaceable resources found on the public lands. Some examples of these types of resources are biological soil crust (measuring change and the effects of different stressors), archeological and paleontological sites (such as rock art and fossil footprints) for the purpose of inventorying and base mapping.
Unauthorized Use Determination - We provide program support for BLM and other Federal agencies in the identification and quantification of unauthorized uses associated with public lands. Examples include a trespass case where the use of current and historical imagery may be used to identify illegal access on the Public Lands, or a boundary dispute where the change in a river channel may obscure and confuse the interpretation of ownership.
Digital Orthophotos - We have the capability to produce digital orthophotos from current and historical photography. Film can be converted to digital files using our high resolution photogrammetric scanner.
New Product Evaluations - The Branch evaluates newer technologies such as LIDAR (Light Detection and Ranging), IFSAR ), airborne digital sensors, and image processing hardware and software solutions for their application in supporting Bureau land management programs and decisions.
