NEMA sizes indicated shall be according to NEMA Standard ICS 2.(# D.Overload Protection: Overcurrent sensing devices shall be included as an integral part of each starter. Three-phase starters shall have an overcurrent device in each ungrounded conductor feeding the motor;}&0*s's' single-phase starters shall have at least one. Overcurrent devices shall automatically operate the switching mechanism to open each ungrounded conductor when they sense an overcurrent.(# E.Undervoltage Protection: Where requirement for undervoltage protection is specified, the starter shall be equipped with a voltage sensitive device which shall automatically operate the switching mechanism to open each ungrounded conductor when it senses a line voltage drop to approximately 75% of rated line voltage.(# F.Switching and Resetting: Starters shall be equipped with manually or magnetically operated quick-make, quick-break contacts to simultaneously make or break each ungrounded conductor feeding the motor. When the contacts are opened due to operation of overload or undervoltage protection devices, they shall remain open until they are reset manually.(# G.Selector Switches: Starters for motors controlled by automatic devices shall be equipped with cover mounted "Hand-Off-Auto" selector switches.(# H.Enclosure: Unless otherwise specified or shown on the drawings, each separately enclosed, surface-mounted starter shall be in NEMA Type 1 enclosure indoors and NEMA Type 4 enclosures outdoors (as described in NEMA 250).(# I.Manual Starter Operating Mechanism: Manual starters shall be equipped with a toggle handle operated, mechanically held, trip free switching mechanism. The toggle handle shall be accessible through the cover and must clearly indicate as to whether the mechanism is in the on, off or tripped position.(# J.Magnetic Starter Operating Mechanism: Magnetic starters shall have a solenoid operated switching mechanism.(# K.Magnetic Starters for Operator Controlled Motors: Shall have cover-mounted, momentary (spring return) start-stop push button control.(# L.Auxiliary Contacts: In addition to the auxiliary contacts required to achieve the functions specified and shown on the drawings, provide one spare set each of normally open and normally closed contacts in each magnetic starter.(# M.Indicator Lights: Magnetic starters shall have a green light to indicate that the line side of the starter is energized. When it is not readily evident at the starter location that the associated motor is running, the starter shall have a red light to indicate that the load side of the starter is energized.(# N.Magnetic Starter Control Circuit Voltage: Unless otherwise indicated, the starter coil, control circuit devices and indicator lights shall operate at [120 V] [24 V], 60 hz.(# O.Control Transformer: When necessary, magnetic starters shall be equipped with control transformers to provide specified control voltage. Control transformers shall have adequate capacity to operate the starter and all other external control equipment. The transformers shall be protected by a fuse, sized per the NEC, on the secondary side.(#}&0*s's'ԌP.Reduced Voltage and Incremental Starters: Shall consist of magnetic contactors suitable for a two-step, closed transition starting sequence and shall include overload protection, an adjustable timing relay to control the timing interval between steps, and additional requirements as follows:(# 1.` ` Reduced voltage type starters shall include a three-phase autotransformer with at least two taps at 65% and 80% of rated line voltage.(#` 2.` ` The adjustable range for the timing relay in part-winding type starters shall be zero to three seconds.(#` 3.` ` Wye-delta type starters shall include appropriate resistors for closed transition switching.(#` Q.Starters for Single-Phase Submersible Pump Motors: Shall be the product of the pump manufacturer and shall include contactors, relays, capacitors and overload protection.(# R.Starters for Three-Phase Submersible Pump Motors: Shall be 3-pole magnetic starters with overload relays which are catalog listed as being fast acting and ambient compensated.
