ADD PHASE DESCRIPTION AND/OR NUMBER OF POLES REQUIRED ON THE CONTRACT DRAWINGS OR ADD THIS INFORMATION TO THE SPECIFICATION. SOME MANUFACTURERS REQUIRE SPECIAL ARRESTERS FOR USE AT ELEVATIONS ABOVE 6,000FT. OTHERS RATE THEIR ARRESTERS FOR USE TO 12,000 FT. ***************************************************** 2.1MATERIALS A.General: Arresters shall be constructed of the manufacturer's standard materials, as listed in published product information; types and sizes shall be as indicated or as required for the installation. Mounting provision is required to suit the location where arrester is installed. Primary arresters shall be applied according to ANSI C62.2, and shall be either Distribution, Intermediate, or Station Classification. Surge arresters shall conform to NEMA LA1.(# B.Primary Arresters:(# 1.` ` Distribution Class: Arresters shall be [ANSI normal duty rated for 3 to 27 kV systems and 65 kA high current withstand] [ANSI heavy-duty rated for 9 to 60 kV systems and 100 kA high current withstand]. Arresters shall be [expulsion] [valve] type. An external gap [is required] [is not allowed]. An isolator to automatically disconnect a damaged arrester from ground [is] [is not] required.(#` 2.` ` Intermediate Class: Arresters shall be valve type available in ratings from 9/10 to 120 kV. Stacking is allowed as needed for the higher ratings. Directional vents are required to relieve}&0*s's' pressure in a damaged arrester. Sealed isolator [is] [is not] required.(#` 3.` ` Station Class: Arresters shall be valve type available in ratings from 3 to 240 kV. Arrester may use a combination of internal gaps and valves or valves only. Stacking is allowed as needed for the higher ratings. Arrester to be provided with pressure-relief system and directional vents.(#` ***************************************************** 2.1C2: MOST COMMON BLM USE OF PRIMARY ARRESTER WOULD PROBABLY BE A VALVE-TYPE DISTRIBUTION ARRESTER FOR USE ON A RISER POLE. SECONDARY VALVE TYPE ARRESTERS SHOULD BE USED ON MOST SERVICES, PARTICULARLY IF THE SUPPLY IS FROM AN OVERHEAD LINE. ***************************************************** C.Secondary Arresters (175 to 650 V) shall be according to ANSI C 62.32 and shall be:(# 1.` ` Expulsion Type: Arresters are for outdoor use only, usually on secondary lines and building service entrances. Ratings and number of poles are as shown on the drawings.(#` 2.` ` Valve Type: Arresters shall consist of a spark gap and valve element connected in series. Ratings and number of poles are as shown on the drawings. Arrester to be suitable for indoor or outdoor use.(#` D.Telephone, Radio and TV Arresters:(# 1.` ` Telephone Type: Arresters shall be according to ANSI C 62.61, of the gas tube, 2- or 3- electrode construction with 1 or 2 line and 1 ground connection. Each tube shall be [medium-duty rated 5 kA maximum discharge] [heavy-duty rated 10 kA maximum discharge]. [Maximum duty rated 20 kA maximum discharge]. Direct current breakdown voltage shall be [Code A, 150-300 Vdc] [Code B, 300-500 V dc] [Code C 500-900 V dc]. Tubes shall include an air-gap backup for fail-safe operation.(#` 2.` ` Television and Radio Type: Arresters shall be suitable for indoor or outdoor installation. Connection shall not unbalance lead impedance. Unit to be suitable for use with [two conductor flat cable] [coaxial cable] [radio antenna leads].(#` PART 3: EXECUTION 3.1INSTALLATION A.General: Install arresters as indicated, complying with the manufacturer's written instructions, applicable requirements of codes and standards, and according to recognized industry practices.(# B.Leads: Install arresters as close as practical to the equipment being protected. Keep leads as short and direct as possible. Do not use narrow loops or sharp angular bends in the leads. Minimum bend radius should be 8 inches.(# C.Mounting Provision: Provide the arrester with the correct mounting provision for the location and application. Primary arresters are available for cross-arm mounting, tank mounting, bus mounting, base mounting, etc. Arresters are available for submersible installations and for use as combination devices such as arrester-line post insulator, or arrester-fused cutout switch. Low-voltage arresters are available in hermetically sealed packages; for threading into tapped holes in terminal boards; for installation in fuse-clip assemblies; with terminal leads, screws, or clamps, etc.(#}&0*s's'ԌٙPART 4: MEASUREMENT AND PAYMENT 4.1METHOD OF MEASUREMENT ***************************************************** WHEN A "LUMP SUM" CONTRACT IS USED, DELETE THE TITLE PART 4: MEASUREMENT AND PAYMENT, AND BOTH ARTICLES FROM THIS SECTION.
