Development shall be performed in the presence of the Contracting Officer.(# B.Surging and Bailing (Utilizing Bailer): The development process shall include surging and bailing the well. Surging shall be accomplished by using the surge block. Development shall start at the bottom of the well and proceed upwards to the top of the aquifer. On completion of development, bailing shall be performed at the bottom of the well to remove accumulated sand or other fines.(# C.Surging and Pumping: The development process shall include surging and pumping the well. The surging shall be done by either a solid or valved surge block. Pumping may be done through the surge block. Pumping shall be done simultaneously with the surging at rates up to 1/2 of the desired sustained well production rate specified on the Work Data Sheet. Development shall start at the bottom of the aquifer and proceed upwards to the top of the aquifer. Upon completion of development, bailing shall be performed at the bottom of the well to remove accumulated sand or other fines.(# D.Hydraulic Jetting: Development shall be accomplished by simultaneous high-velocity, horizontal-jetting and pumping. The outside diameter of the jetting tool shall be 1 inch less in diameter than the screen's inside diameter. The minimum exit velocity of the jetting fluid at the jet nozzle shall be 150 fps. The tool shall be rotated at a speed of less than 1 rpm. It shall be positioned at one level for not less}&0*s's' than 2 minutes and then shall be moved to the next level which shall be no more than 6 inches vertically from the preceding jetting level. The jetting shall proceed from the bottom to the top of the screen. Pumping from the well shall be at a rate of 5% to 15% more than the rate at which water is introduced through the jetting tool. Water to be used for jetting must contain less than 1 ppm suspended solids. Upon completion of development, bailing shall be performed at the bottom of the well to remove accumulated sand and other fines.(# 3.2TESTING THE WELL BY THE PUMPING METHOD(# ***************************************************** SELECT SENTENCE IN BRACKETS WHEN CAPPING IS REQUIRED. ***************************************************** A.General: After the well has been completely constructed, developed and cleaned, the Contractor shall make a final determination of hydraulic characteristics by conducting a pumping test. After the test is completed, the pump and related equipment shall be removed by the Contractor. [The well shall be capped according to Section 02525 - Water Supply Wells.](# B.Pumping Test Procedures:(# 1.` ` Measure and record the depth from the ground surface to the static water level.(#` 2.` ` Unless otherwise directed, securely fasten the air line or other depth determining device to the pumping unit. The air line shall terminate approximately at the maximum desired pumping level. In no case may the air line be within 2 ft of the intake. (#` 3.` ` Operate the pump either at a rate that will lower the water surface in the well about 1/3 of the maximum possible drawdown, or at about 1/3 the pump capacity, whichever is limiting. Continue pumping at this constant rate until the water is clear and the water level in the well becomes constant. In the event the water level is lowered to the bottom of the hole, pumping shall continue until the rate of inflow has been accurately determined.(#` 4.` ` Measure and record the drawdown (difference in the water level before pumping and after pumping) and the rate of pumping. The first 10 min of the test, take a reading every 2 min, then a reading every 3-4 min for the first half hr, then every 15 min up to 3 hrs, then once every hour over 3 hrs.(#` 5.` ` Change the rate of pumping to that which will produce a drawdown of approximately 2/3 of the maximum possible drawdown or 2/3 of the pump capacity, whichever is controlling.(#` 6.` ` Repeat the measurements described in step 4 above until the pumping level again stabilizes.(#` 7.` ` Increase the rate of pumping to produce the maximum drawdown (water level near the bottom of the producing aquifer) or to pump capacity, whichever is controlling. A second mark shall be made one bailer length above the first. Rhythmically bailing, the Contractor shall lower the line precisely to the second mark on the cable each time, noting the elapsed time per round trip.(#` 3.` ` The bailer shall be full each time it emerges from the well. If the bailer is not full, it shall not be lowered deeper; however, the rate of bailing shall be slowed until the bailer comes out full each time.(#` 4.` ` When the depth of water in the well is less than the length of the bailer, the Contractor shall measure the amount of water in the bailer and relate it to a timed interval of 1 min for each time the bailer leaves the bottom of the well.(#` 5.` ` The static water level, the stabilized pumping water level, and the well yield (gpm) shall be measured and recorded.(#` 6.` ` Recovery data to be recorded for an equal time as bailing test duration.(#` 7.` ` When the yield is greater than the minimum specified, the Contractor [is not required to] [shall] determine the maximum yield of the well, but shall continue bailing or pumping at a constant rate at least 150% of the specified rate for at least}&0*s's' 1hr after the drawdown level has become constant.
