Reducing wildland fire threats and losses to communities and our natural resources by taking action before a fire starts is what we are all about. Reaching out to you through educational activities can reduce the number of human-caused fires and mitigate losses from wildland fires. We offer financial and technical assistance to help communities in a number of ways, such as:
- Complete Community Wildfire Protection Plans,
- Implement hazardous fuel reduction projects,
- Initiate fire prevention measures, and
- Train rural fire departments in wildland fire suppression techniques.
We accomplish these activities through interagency cooperation and a strong partnership with the New Mexico Association of Counties (NMAC). In addition to providing a statewide network for county and community-based outreach, the NMAC has been successful in leveraging BLM financial assistance with other funding sources to increase the number of risk-reducing projects occurring throughout the state.
